Cut & Paste Competition NYC 2009

Cut & Paste Competition NYC 2009

Went to the Cut & Paste 2009 design competition at Webster Hall tonight.  A lot of fun.  It struck me that Cut & Paste is the cultural intersection of the hip hop street scene and the 2 & 3D design profession.  One of the MC’s was even wearing a big gold chain around his neck with a gold mouse hanging on it.  Pretty funny.  Webster Hall was packed.  Admittedly, it is hard for a crowd to get whipped into a frenzy by four people on stage sitting motionless behind computer screens but, given the circumstances, the spectators were definitely into the competition.  And what we got were a bunch of mad graphics skills displayed on the big screens overhead.  All of the competitons produced some great stuff in the brutally short time frame allowed.  Refined artwork and 3D models were created out of thin air in mere moments.  It all made me want to hone my own Photoshop skills.  But tonight the graphic design masters battled in digital Thunderdome.
