Ideas In Food – The Culinary Cutting Edge

09-ideas-in-food-1I have been very naughty lately.  I have been spending a lot time on a certain website and I can’t seem to get my eyes to look away.  It makes me feel guilty but I can’t stop staring at the beautiful photos on its pages.  O.k…. I’ll confess.  That website is Ideas In Food

Ideas In Food is the home of chef / consultants Aki Kamozawa and Alex Talbot.  I was introduced to their work by culinary adventurer Michael Cirino of A Razor, A Shiny Knife who could not say enough good things about it.  The Ideas In Food website is an amazing collection and documentation of Aki and Alex’s culinary thought process and experimentation.  I have not yet eaten their food but from what I can tell by their writing and photography, Aki and Alex are at the forefront of the expanding culinary horizon and new developments in food.  They are super creative and, if you follow their twitter feed, you can see evidence that they are always thinking about new flavor combinations and techniques.  Their work exhibits all the traits of good design - A questioning and reexamination of accepted norms.  Ideation to establish a concept.  Developing ideas into mature thinking through process and testing of the concept.  Careful execution of the finished product with attention to form and composition.  This is food design.  Aki and Alex are great designers.

I think only a handful of chefs in the United States, or the world for that matter, could do food at the level of creativity and execution that it looks like Aki and Alex of Ideas in Food are doing.  I am very impressed by what I see on their website and I look forward to meeting them and eating their food someday soon.
