Beastie Boys ‘Double Check Your Head’ Mash Up

09-beastie-boys-double-check-your-headThe Beastie Boys were one of the reasons I wanted to move to New York City.  Them, the Talking Heads, Sonic Youth, Andy Warhol and well… lots of other reasons (if people can be ‘reasons’).  But the Beastie Boys are up there.  Actually back in the early months of 2002 I found myself unemployed and pounding the wet, cold pavement, schlepping resumes to design firms around town.  I stopped into a deli on Hudson to get out of the cold for a minute and kill some time.  Went up to the counter to pay for my Snapple and who should I find myself standing next to but MCA.  He looked at me and the first thing that sputtered out of my mouth was “I love you”.  That caught him by surprize.  I quickly apologized and we had a lovely conversation about how cool he and the Beastie Boys were and about how broke and out of work I was.  A really nice guy.  He even looked back and waved as he left the deli.  Years later I took Mike D’s side as he untangled his cart from the cart of some other woefully inconsiderate gentlman that tried to pass him in the onion aisle of Whole Foods.  But that is another story.  And I won’t even get into detailing how I could recite all the lyrics to Paul Revere in the time it took from me spotting the high school bus on the far hill to the moment it stopped in front of me…

Anyway, I love the Beastie Boys.  So I was excited to see that they just released a new mash-up album called Double Check Your Head.  What a great album.  Listening to it takes me back to sophomore year in college.  Boy… that was a while ago… It’s free to download.  Get it while it’s hot.
