A New York City Thanksgiving

09-thanksgiving-NY-demian-repucciWe usually join the highway slogging throngs and travel for Thanksgiving.  But due to our reluctance wanting to spend multiple hours in a car with a month-old poo machine, we have decided to stay put.  So, amazing as it sounds, this will be our first Thanksgiving in New York!

We are going to try to check out the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.  If you are here you have to right?  We’ll also watch some mediocre pro football and, of course, cook like crazy.  I am excited to put our new BlueStar range to the test.  So far it has been an awesome BTU belching beast, but hopefully I will be able to get all six burners running at once for the first time this holiday.  I also plan on brining and spatchcocking my turkey as detailed by Grace in her gracenotesNYC blog.  I have never done that before so I am very much looking forward to it.  Hopefully I can also come up with a few creative side dishes to play with.  As good as grandma’s baked-string-beans-in-cream-of-mushroom-soup-with-onion-rings-on-top was, I think it’s time to move onward and upward, yes?  Although I will, of course, make an exception and include canned cranberry sauce.  I love that stuff.  And as there will be a bunch of relatives packed into our little apartment, I will have plenty of cheap wine on hand.  For them as well as for me.
