Warhol With an iPhone?

The Rolling Stones ‘Sticky Fingers’ album cover by Andy Warhol is a genius piece of art.  Straight forward yet clever, engaging, provocative, tactile… never mind that the zipper can scratch the heck out of the vinyl.  I was messing around with some photography of my own recently and it struck me that a phone in [...]

Halloween Pumpkin Carving: Warhol’s ‘Self Portrait (Fright Wig)’

This is what I worked on in between trick-or-treat knocks at our door.  I do not want to think about how long this pumpkin carving project took me but…. I am pleasantly surprised with how it turned out.  A new rendition of Andy Warhol’s ‘Self Portrait (Fright Wig)’, 1986 (on the left) executed in back [...]

The Armory Show 2010 – A Safe Bet

The 2010 installment of The Armory Show has come and gone.  Hundreds of galleries from around the world all packed tightly together for a few days on the piers jutting out over the Hudson.  A fitting location as it felt like a sort-of sardine cannery for art.  I walked the entirety of the show on Saturday [...]

Louis Vuitton – So Trashy.

I have been thinking about the new ‘Raindrop Besace’ bag by Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton.  And I think I love it.  Well… to clarify… I love it… because it is so confusing.
It is, literally, a trash bag.  Except that it is not.  A neo-realist representation of a trash bag.  But done in glossy treated [...]

Danziger Projects – ‘Greatness; Andy Warhol Polaroids of Sports Champions’

I know I am late to this party but Danziger Projects is currently showing an exhibit of Andy Warhol Polaroids titled, ‘Greatness; Andy Warhol Polaroids of Sports Champions’.  Currently hanging in Danziger’s 534 West 24th Street gallery, the exhibit features sports stars such as Muhammad Ali, O.J. Simpson, Pele and John McEnroe.  Most of the champions [...]

Cha-Ching! Warhol Remains King Of Sotheby’s

Andy has done it again.  Hot painting of the moment ‘200 One Dollar Bills’  (1962) sold at Sotheby’s Contemporary Art Evening Auction last night for US$43,762,500. Over three times the high estimate of $12 million.  The New York Times article about the sale describes five collectors in competition for the piece.  The painting is a [...]

Mick Jagger and Andy Warhol: Nothing But Business

I have a new respect for Mick Jagger.
He’s rock n’ roll.  He appreciates art and the artistic process.  He’s polite (although I guess that’s sort of a common British thing).  And evidently he is happy to pay his subcontractors well.  If only every client could be like this.
No wonder the Queen knighted him.
