New Years Eve 2009 Dinner

Since Captain Stinker came along our social schedule has been under a bit of a ‘re-org’.  So for New Year’s Eve this year, instead of going out (actually a welcome excuse for this holiday), we stayed home and had a few people over to our place for a casual dinner and drinks.  The evenings thrown-together menu consisted of:

Frisee and red lettuce salad with heirloom tomatoes, bacon, homemade croutons and anchovy vinaigrette.

Penne with chestnut pesto of chestnuts, parmesan reggiano, lemon zest, lemon juice, garlic, olive oil and black pepper.

Spaghetti Carbonara of eggs, guanciale, bacon, garlic, onions, olive oil, fresh parsley and parmesan reggiano.

Taittinger Brut La Francaise NV (thanks to Eric Asimov’s great pre-holiday champagne review in the New York Times).  Also enjoyed the special treat of a bottle of Perrier-Jouet Fleur de Champagne 1999 (thanks Julie!)

Roasted butternut squash risotto (evidently my concentration on the champagne caused me to forget to photograph the risotto..)

Cured salmon ‘tartare’ with olive oil, capers, shallots, lemon zest and lemon juice (similar photography oversight)

A great dinner and a great night with friends.  If this was any indication, 2010 is going to be a delicious year.
